Feeding Schedule: 2–6 Months
This is the standard Bellhaven feeding plan for growing Border Collie puppies. Amounts can be adjusted for age, size, and activity levels to ensure your pup stays healthy and happy.
What We Feed
- MORNING: 1 cup of dry food (Advance or Scratch) plus 250 g of Lyka.
- EVENING: 1 cup of dry food plus 250 g of fresh meat (raw or cooked chicken, lamb, beef, kangaroo, goat, mince, or raw chicken frames) OR 250 g of Lyka.
Increase the amount slowly as your puppy grows and according to appetite and body condition.
Bones & Extras
- Fresh raw bones at least twice per week (after 4 months of age).
- Never feed cooked bones.
- Introduce any new foods slowly so you don’t upset their tummy.
- Plain natural yoghurt (about 1 Tbsp mixed into wet food) can act like a gentle probiotic for mild tummy upsets.
How Often to Feed
Bellhaven pups are fed morning and night until around 6 months of age. After this milestone, they can move to 1–2 meals per day depending on your family routine and their individual energy levels.
Changing Dry Food Safely
When introducing a new dry food, it is vital to change over slowly across 10 days to prevent digestive upset. Follow this clear day-by-day breakdown:
Day 1 – 90% old food / 10% new food
Day 2 – 80% old food / 20% new food
Day 3 – 70% old food / 30% new food
Day 4 – 60% old food / 40% new food
Day 5 – 50% old food / 50% new food
Day 6 – 40% old food / 60% new food
Day 7 – 30% old food / 70% new food
Day 8 – 20% old food / 80% new food
Day 9 – 10% old food / 90% new food
Day 10 – 0% old food / 100% new food
